Submission Instructions

  1. Select the “Information for Authors” link in the upper bar of the JAE webpage.
  2. Select “Submit a Manuscript.”
  3. Select “Make a new submission.”
  4. “Start” tab:
    1. Read and acknowledge the submission requirements by selecting each box.
    2. Comments for the editor are available if needed.
    3. Acknowledge the copyright and privacy statements.
    4. Select “Save and Continue.”
  5. “Upload Submission” tab:
    1. Select “Upload File” or “Add File” and select the document you wish to upload.
    2. Select “Article Text” for “What kind of file is this?”
    3. Select “Save and Continue.”
  6. “Enter Metadata” tab: All information should be entered as the author(s) wish it to be listed in the final publication.
    1. Prefix: If your title begins with A, An, or The, enter it here.
    2. Title: The title must match what is on the manuscript. Enter in title case (major words capitalized), excluding a prefix (A, An, The) as noted above.
    3. Abstract: Copy and paste the full abstract, not in italics.
    4. Select “Add Contributor” in the “List of Contributors” section and enter each contributor’s information.
      1. Given Name: This is typically your first name. (e.g., Brian). If you would like your middle name or middle initial to appear in publications, please include it in this textbox (e.g., Brian E.).
      2. Family Name: This is typically your last name (e.g., Myers).
      3. Preferred Public Name: Leave this section blank, as the publication system (PKP) does not use it when generating citations.
      4. Enter the author’s Email, Country, and Affiliation.
      5. Homepage URL and Bio Statement: Leave these sections blank.
      6. Select “Author” as the Contributor’s role.
      7. Select “Principal contact for editorial correspondence” for only the corresponding author.
      8. Select "Send e-mail to request ORCID authorization from contributor.” Each author will receive an email to register/connect their ORCID iD to the article. We request that all authors connect their ORCID iD.
      9. Select “Save” after entering the data for each author.
      10. Repeat these steps for each author. Authors should be listed in authorship order.
    5. Enter “Keywords”. Capitalize each word. Please ensure to click Enter after each keyword.
    6. Add Supporting Agencies if relevant. If more than one, separate these acknowledgments by clicking Enter after each.
    7. Enter “References” - Copy/paste the references from the manuscript into this section.
    8. Select “Save and Continue."
  7. “Confirmation” Tab:
    1. Select “Finish Submission.”
